Harpies are an avian/human mutation, sprouting feathered wings and ruffled tails. They see the world through an ultraviolet view, slash with their claws dealing percing damage, and walk around on digitrade legs.

Their most inconic ability, however, is to take to the skies!

Biology

  • Harpies innately have a full vocal range and more from birth, able to sing a tune on the spot with their voice, playing music wherever they are, so long as they aren't muffled, this also allows them to be incredibly proficient impressionists, capable of imitating the sounds of most species.
  • Harpies wings are fully functional, capable of taking to the sky and increasing their movement speed dramatically, this does come with drawbacks how ever, as it heavily drains their stamina and disables the use of their hands.
  • Their wings also give them better acceleration if there is no gravity on the station, but they still can't move without equipment when floating out in space.
  • Due to their digitrade legs, Harpies are unable to wear any type of footwear.
  • Harpies breath 3x faster than other races.
  • Harpies have hollow bones, making them weak to breaking, this makes them very lightweight, causing difficulty with pulling other species, on the brighter side, they also can run 10% faster than other species.

Origins

Harpies, or Uru' Nar, are a species of Humanoids that originate from the planet Avatel-Ran. In appearance, they are small, wispy humanoids with large wings and bird feet, with no hair, and pinfeathers in the places of human hair. Their wings also have three taloned hands on them, which are double opposing, with two thumbs, and one true finger. Despite this, Harpies are some of the most dexterous peoples in known space. This dexterity, combined with their natural compulsiveness to craftmanship, has led to harpies being some of the most talented tradesmen and craftsmen to be discovered.

Given their homeworlds abundance of resources, and their own tendencies, Harpies are a people of neurotic compulsions. Harpies are struck with cravings on the regular, and will be driven to total insanity by their cravings until sated. These cravings can range from as little as a glass of wine, to as much as learning and perfecting a artform. To that end, most harpies gain a fixation at some point in their life, that deeply pulls them into a trade, which they will devote much of their adult life to. Due to their all consuming devotion to their interests, harpies are often among the best in their field, if one can get over their mannerisms and eccentricities.

When human expansion crossed paths with the Harpy, the harpies had already formed a bustling sector of multispecies trade fueled by an decadent civilian economy, and a culture of one-upmanship. This sector, Appalia, still stands independent to this day, mainly due to the might of the Appalia Trade Consulate, and the large navy it commands in the name of keeping its borders secure and trade unimpeded. Given the status of the sector, most of the major human corporations never established major footholds in harpy space, but nonetheless, harpies became regulars to Nanotrasen stations, through their own endless desire for improvement and satisfaction.
