Cargo is the department primarily responsible for obtaining and distributing various resources for the station. One of the ways they do this is using the cargo shuttle to travel back and forth from the automated trade station (ATS).

Jobs

Cargo Worker

The grunt workers of cargo, their role is primarily to handle orders, retrieve them from the ATS, and to sell bounties on the ATS for more spesos.

Salvage will mine materials and collect valuables floating around the station, and bring in more using the salvage magnet. They are rewarded with mining points which they can use to buy gear and fun items from their vendor.

Courier

Courier's deal with mail, using the mail teleporter to obtain envelopes and packages that reward spesos when their intended recipient opens them. Beware of taking too many, as priority mail will deduct spesos if its not delivered in time!

Quartermaster

The person in command of cargo department. Their job is primarily to order people around and keep things running smoothly. Their access is required in order to skip bounties. Their locker has an exclusive digi-board item that can make orders without needing a console, in addition to a bunch of extra circuit boards for cargowork and a pair of knuckledusters.

Bounties

The primary way cargo workers earn money, the bounty console will have a list of needed items that can be sold for spesos at the ATS. Once the bounty is printed out, it can be put on a crate or locker and then filled with the necessary items, use your appraisal gun to see if the bounty is ready to be sold.

Tips:

  • Often, you can craft a similar item and still have it count for the bounty, shivs can be crafted and count for the knives bounty!
  • Ask the quartermaster to skip bounties that are too hard to complete in a reasonable amount of time so you can work on a different bounty instead.

Orders

Using the orders console, people with cargo access can order items to the ATS. If science researches cargo telepads, they can be made and linked to an orders console with a multitool or network configurator to send the order directly to the telepad and bypassing the need to pick it up.

Tips:

  • If you need items from a locked crate (such as weapons), use a weapon with high structural damage to break them open! Salvage will likely have several.
  • Orders send notifications on the radio of the department whose budget they used, to avoid this, emag the orders console and it will no longer send these.

Automated Trade Station (ATS)

Located several hundred meters from the station, this lets you receive orders as well as sell items and bounties.

Tips:

  • Bluespace lockers are a random event where two lockers will teleport to eachother, if you find one of these put one of them on the ATS to enable fast travel between cargo and trade station. Crates can be crafted with 5 steel in the build menu (G by default) once your at the selling pallet, do this instead of trying to fit one through a locker.

Being an Antagonist

The get the very valuable cargo access with these roles, make orders to help yourself, or delay/get rid of orders for security. Medical items, weapons and armor are available in various orders, as are random selections of chems from the surplus pharmaceutical crate. To avoid suspicion, try using an emag on the console to suppress any alerts for orders, or change the requester when you make the order to pretend someone else asked for it.

You will also have access to the ore silo and cargo lathe, allowing you to get a large amount of materials for whatever evil things you want to build, and some basic protokinetic weapons (when researched). Departments will also need materials, try asking for a helpful item while your doing so, or ask to bring the materials to their lathe and print what you need.

Delivery of mail means you could potentially ask for someone's whereabouts without raising suspicion. If you want an item (like flashes), try pretending you have a bounty for them and ask around for them.

Finally, you will have access to the cargo shuttle, which is not the most useful, but may let you open some airlocks by docking, and gives you access to space.
